Celebrating Columbus Day with the Islanders & the Kings

And Happy Thanksgiving to all our Hockey friends in Canada! I think I can smell the turkey from here. (he he he he....think about it...)

So this is my view high above the ice. It's a little lonely so far, but it is only 1:43 pm. Will this day game again be Kryptonite for the Isles? Coach Gordon said it's different because they had a full practice, but I'm a believer in habit. And personally I think the habit is to come out slow... but I guess we'll have to drop the puck to see.

They're bringing out all the Mascots! and the NJ Devil gets a rousing round of "BOOOOOO!" I think STORM is the best one there is. But I am biased.

The last time they mascots were here and we were all in they were all in the Blog Box, they got Silly Stringed badly. It was there for weeks.

Hey!!! So I see Thompson, Tambellini and Hillen are scratched for today. Hmmmmm... Poor Jiffy, Jeff, Jeff. This has to be killing him.

14:07 Only a few minutes in and the crowd sounds fantastic here at the Coliseum. I don't know if it's because I'm up so hight and the sound rises or if they are really just that into it, but the "oooohhhhsss" and "aahhhhhsss" have never sounded so loud to me. Now... if they can get just a quick one off, that would make them roar with pleasure!

Yep, "Wrecker" got five for fighting and is waiting in the box to be sprung. Kyle Okposo has lost his stick TWICE. Someone please put some velcro on the handle for him. Thanks.

A nice little up ice rush by Tavares, Okposo and Moulson and Kyle loses the puck in a turn over. Boo hiss. So close.

When Okposo's shot hit the side of the net, you could hear the loud dissapointment. Even the guy next to me is "ooooohhhhhing" and "ahhhhhing." I'm biting my tongue, which is making my stomach hurt.

Okay, so how does that happen, Schremp takes a face off and immediately dorps his stick. Guess it was broken. He immediately went to the bench for another and then got off a wicked shot that hit the upper netting.

Okay, thats the third time Okposo has dropped his stick. Does he have new gloves??

Schremp had a great chance, but Quick has been just that... Quick.

And not for nothing, but today, even I'M cold. And I don't get cold here.

So just as I tweet that Bergie owes me a goal, he takes a slashing penalty instead. You cant score from the box darling. But then again, there have been very few penbalties in this game so far.

Okay, someone tell me why this crowd is booing the Kings so much.

The Isles will have a power play after twenty seconds as Justin Williams heads to the box. Sean is sprung and Tavares takes his place on the ice and gets a shot off to the left of Quick, but nothing. Kings clear, and now we play, over the blue line and back over and over again.

For four seconds, Black Comeau looked like Sidney Crosby. It was beautiful, and very short lived.

Another pentalty called.... on Blake.

Three kids just won playstations from PC Richard. Our very own Long Island staple in the appliance business.

A tough scramble in front of a very crowded net earns the Kings their first goal at 1:27 of the 2nd. It was a really poor penalty kill. They just kept letting the Kings set up. Personally, I'm not blaming that one on Biron. Twitter friends agreed, he was totally screened.

As the horn blows to end the period, the Kings Johnson takes a penalty which will give the Islanders a 1:45 power play on a fresh sheet of ice. Now... Let's see if they can actually DO something with that!!!

Official attendance is 12,145 which is quite nice for a Monday afternoon at 2 pm! The kids are loving this for sure.

And the hopes for an Islanders afternoon win just got a little dimmer as Drew Doughty just blasted one past Biron to make it a 2 - 0 hockey game. Shots are 21 - 19 in favor of the Isles but they've got a long road to make it back and win with only 13:31 left in the third.

To make matters worse, Matt Moulson takes a high sticking penaty to put the isles at a disadvantage when they need an advantage more than ever. Okay, how many goals can the Kings score in the last minutes of the third? Let's find out.

Kyle tumbles into the net and Rob Scuderi takes a tripping penalty. Isles go on a power play with Tavares Moulson and Okposo still on the ice. And again, the Kings do a good job of clearing the puck. They can't set up properly and promptly get booed by the crowd that loved them so much earlier.

Always in front of the net, Jon Sim had the best chance of the afternoon for the Isles, but it bounced off the crossbar and not into the net.

With a little over 3 minutes left and no chance of coming from behind (hell they're not the Yankees), I'm going to pack up my crap and be ready to run.

Later!
