Commitment Starts NOW!

Yes it does on Twitpic
It's finally here! The Islanders home opener is tonight and the weather is beautiful for all the fun and exciting entertainment they have planned outside the Coliseum.

I am excited about tonight for a variety of reasons; hockey back, fans are visiting from far-away places, Big Angry Man will actually be in attendance.

Will this be the debut of Evgeni Nabokov in net or will it be Rick DiPietro between the pipes tonight? Only Jack Capuano knows and he will be telling the media at his 10 am availability. (which will probably be over by the time I get this freakin' thing posted.) **10:04 am And Jack says it's MONTOYA! The Big Cubano gets the nod!

Follow @StapeNewsday on twitter for all the player coverage. Today I'll be covering YOU, the fans. That's my focus today. There are enough mainstream media covering the team and personally, I think the fans are just as important today as anyone else.

For "the Skinny" on today's home opener, check out Eric Hornick's column today and every game day for interesting tidbits that will make you more intelligent.

Also, the team store opens today at 4 pm. There will be a special discount for 4-square users. Are you on 4-square? Then take advantage. Promotion runs from 4 - 6 pm only. Need a jersey for the game? Get one at the new team store. It's gorgeous.

Are you on Twitter and Facebook? Meet the Islanders Social Media department and see the guys from HockeyThisWeek broadcast LIVE from Doolin's from 6 - 7 pm (or maybe even longer.)

It all starts tonight. Finally. As @QuickFacts posted this morning, the three hockey words for today are -- SUMMER.IS.OVER.
