Isles Vs. Caps for Okposo's Debut

9:06 pm: With Matt Martin in the box the Islander PK is at work. Rick made an excellent save and tried to bat the puck out but the whistle blew.

Back on the Power Play for a tripping call at 9:34 of the third on poor Hillen. The Isles get some great chances and again, Moulson can't convert. This is killing him. He looks up to the roof and mouths, "again?"

When the Isles loos the puck and the Caps skate out on a break-away, Rick once again becomes brave and skates past the circle to play the puck. I almost threw up.

End of 2 2 - 1 Caps. 20 minutes to get this one turned around. I think they can do it, but not if they don't play smart! And the first one who has to is Rick.

8:20 pm

Attendance stat, 9,119. That's what they tell us.

Okay, interesting shift. First Gervais breaks his stick shooting from the point. Then Reese trips at the blue line and Rick skates out of his net to play the puck and falls down. Alzner trips over Rick as he stumbles to get back in his net leaving it wide open.

And somehow.... Alzner ends up with a penalty. Isles on their fourth power play and almost get one had it not been for the quick glove of Braden Holtby.

Start of second:

With the clock down only a little more than three minutes, the Caps make it 2 - 0 as Ovechkin to Backstrom gets behind Rick. But then at 5:15 of the 2nd, Michael Grabner and his amazing speed rush up the ice and get the puck over #70.

Did I just see Ovechkin fan on the puck while he was down, Yes, I did. Everyone makes mistakes, even the Great 8.

A very familiar name, John Erskine gets called for holding and the Isles are on their third power play for the evening. Sadly, it doesn't look like much of one. A-mac can't keep the puck at the line twice, and then Hillen fumbles it as well. and a clear by #74 send the Isles the other way. Power play done; now 0 for 3.

7:30 pm:

While my photos were trying to upload, the Islanders were back on the power play with. Kyle had some good chances around as did Moulson, who still can't buy a goal.

As the Caps penalty expired, PA Parenteau takes an interference penalty and the Caps actually have an entire TV time out to prepare for their power play. Nielsen gets a clear with 44 seconds left of the first period and then the Isles luck out again as the Caps go off sides bringing the puck back in. Can Rick hold on for 33 more secodns and just go to the room down by 1?

5:30 pm:

Yep. Comeau gets the clear and the Caps will start the second period with a fresh sheet of ice and 11 seconds of Power play time.

And, I'm here! Left the office a little late, but I am here nice and early and should be able to get some photos of the returning players. Have to get a spot at the glass as it is starting to get a little crowded down there.

And here we go!

The Caps are starting their young goalie, Braden Holtby and we are starting our "veteran." The Orange Man is in attendance and the key to the game will be to keep Alex Ovechkin off the score board.

so at 16:19 the Caps drew first blood on a lucky tip in by Jason Chimera on a pass by Alex the Great. In all honesty, I can't blame Rick for that one. Kyle has taken a few regular shifts and looks just slightly a step behind. Of course, that could also be because I'm biting my nails every time he's out there.
