As this is the only time we'll see the Isles play the Sharks, this is the only time we'll get to see Dany Heatly on our ice. Don't you feel like you know him personally? Considering how often we had to hear his name over the summer. I seriously was a little tired of it. So here he will be. Hope he gets a fitting reaction for being the only hockey news for so many weeks during the off-season.
While the Isles didn't win their game against the Sabres last night, the Sharks didn't win in Washington either. I read that they spent most of the first period in the box. That may do us good if the Islanders can remain as disciplined as they have been lately.
Word on the street is Biron will start again, but of course, that could change. Guess we'll have to see when warm ups start.
Joel Rechlichz is dressed, but let's see if he's still in Scotty's dog house and won't play. And somone tell Brendan Witt to get a haircut. He's starting to look like one of the ice-girls.
And once again, MSG is screwing with Islanders fans as everyone else is airing on HD tonight, but the Isles. Now, of course, I had a conversation about this and was told it has to do with "ratings." Now, correct me if I'm wrong here, but how can you judge ratings for real if the channel you put the Islanders on ISN'T EVEN OFFERED IN EVERY MARKET???? HUH?
Therefore, the "ratings" logic is manufactured by Cablevision and is not exactly VALID. How about you put them on in HD when there is a Devils game also on, and put the Devils on the channel that looks like it's airing from 1970? Then you can check the ratings for that game. Then you can give me that "ratings" argument. Until then, Cabelvision, Owner of MSG, The Rangers, Newsday, News 12 and Madison Square Garden, I will just consider that you are doing this for your own agenda. (and you can byte me.)
Robbie Schremp certainly does work well with the puck and Radek Martinek seems to have a fire under his butt tonight.
Joel took a shift and didn't get put in the penalty box. I'm so happy!!
With the hard work of Hillen and Doug Weight, the crowd finally gets into it and starts the Let's go Islanders cheer. Okay, so it didn't last long, but at least I know they are breathing. There was a Heatly sighting and... nothing.
5:26 and the first penalty of the game on San Jose #45 Shelley. If the Isles can score on the power play they can go to the room with at least a lead for the evening.
Get the puck to Moulson, he seems to be a magnet!!
Okay, there it its at 4:45 of the first, Kyle gets a goal! They can at least have a lead for a few minutes. Shots are 12 - 6 right now so the Isles are definitely finding their chances. They njst need to get some of them IN.
Goal scoring change to the puck magnet Moulson, but thelead didn't last too long into the first when the Sharks tied it up as Witt was in the box. JT still keeps his assist point.
Crap, so with JT losing the puck in the Sharks end, it starts a rush up ice a little mishap behind th net with Martinek face down and the puck is in the net behind Biron. Sharks now lead 2 - 1 and the SOG are now far less lopsided at 24 - 20. The Islanders had better get back to their sense of "urgency" or they will lose this one too.
A beautiful cross-ice pass to Doug Weight and he misses "by THAT much!" CLANK! right off the post and a collective moan rises up from the crowd.
As luck would have it, the Islanders will start the third on a FULL two minute penalty kill as Jack Hillen gets called for holding just about as the buzzer sounded. It's never good to start out on a penalty kill when there's a fresh sheet of ice and fresh legs. boo hiss for us.
So after the first period, I snuck downstairs to meet up with @Katrina_Doell and Hockey Joe. Had to say Hi! Also there was my Blog Box buddy Brian Walsh, I was very jealous seeing him sporting his Okposo Jersey!!I knew the penalty would be a killer as the Sharks draw blood and make it 3 - 1 about a minute into the third by Joe Thorton. I just had a conversation with Brad Kurtzberg from Inside Hockey about the Isles being able to get back into this game. He didn't think so. I should have stuck with his feeling. Damn it.
On the positive side, the Isles are getting much better at faceoffs. Now, if they could get better at SCORING, they'd actually win a game.
From the right of the net, the puck takes a high bounce off Biron's shoulder and right in behind him. Okay, we're done here. This is the point of no return. There will be no Isles win tonight. How are those Leafs doing aginst the Rangers? Oh Look!! Same score! Yep. We're the Leafs South for sure.
How 'bout them Yankees? Huh? Awesome!
