So the Islanders played their last game at home until the last week of November. It's a brutal schedule that isn't exactly fair to the fans, now is it?
But at least they left us with a 6 - 3 win over Atlanta. Catch a few of Scott Gordon's closing remarks from his post game in press room 6 on my entry at HB.
But here, I'd like to put out a few personal musings while I wait for my wayward child to come home.
A while back I wrote an entry called "I Blog, Therefore I am Tired." This is my third season as an Islanders blogger and the fifth year I've been putting myself out here on the Internet with my web journals. It isn't easy. Not by a long-shot.
There is never enough time to do everything that needs to be done and some days ideas are hard to come by. Home game days are long. I get up at 6 and leave for work by 8:30 am. I don't return home again until almost 11 pm and stay up and write until midnight. I change in the bathroom at work, eat on the run and make the 45 minute drive home alone in all sorts of weather. That's not a complaint, it's just an explanation. It's also all part of the book in my head that I'm so much closer to writing.
I write because that's who I am. I can't help myself. I've been writing since I was six. But it's a solitary and sedentary act. I've gained at least 15 lbs in the last two years. I feel like I've aged six.
I've made some great friends and some formidable enemies. I've learned some valuable life lessons and offered up a few as well. I've left myself vulnerable to strangers and become close to people I would have otherwise never met. Blogging is one of those things that can truly be classified as a blessing and a curse. I just wish I could figure out how to do it while I'm jogging. Then maybe I could lose the weight I've gained, 'cause I know I can get the years back.... dammit.
The Islanders took today off and return to practice tomorrow. I return to work. Don't you just HATE Mondays?
