**And because I DO 'hear everything,' here is the audio from Garth Snow on the Bill Watters show on AM640 Toronto from yesterday afternoon.Well, as much as I would love to sit down and write all about my Christmas wish that came true yesterday. I don't have time to put every detail down as it is now time for me to begin getting ready to entertain family and friends for the Holiday.
December 23rd was the date I set for myself to finally get five minutes with the one player that is responsible for me being the NY Islanders 7thWoman. After several years of joking about orders of protection that don't exist, no security was called in to keep me at least 50 yards away from ex-Islander Jason Blake. All the jokes and suspicions of a harbored hatred for me disappeared in a warm smile, a handshake and a wish for a Merry Christmas.
It was the final chapter for the book in my head that now has to be written. While it's actually a wonderful story for anyone who aspires to get into this business, it was also a personal epiphany. I actually CAN do just about anything I put my mind to. That is probably why the energizer bunny of hockey was the catalyst for this journey of mine.
It was a wonderful day at the Coliseum. It was my Christmas gift. So, I'd like to thank Jason Blake for finally giving me a few minutes after nine years of "chasing" him. I'd like to thank Seth Sylvan for looking out for me at every turn. Craig Downey the Leafs Media Relations Coordinator for agreeing to and then facilitating the interview. A great BIG thank you to GM Garth Snow who has been accommodating at every turn and my staunchest supporter. To the Coachs "Scott" who answer every dumb-ass question I've thrown at them with patience and knowing smiles.
To my Blog Box Buddies who always look out for me, no matter what: Tom, Mike, Ken, Doug. To Brad Kurtzberg from Inside Hockey that has helped me get over the fear of opening my mouth in a press conference.
To my closest girl-friends; Vicki, Wendy and Katrina who have laughed and cried with me through every success and failure. To my boss Leslee who has let me come and go as I please in order to cover the Islanders because I wanted to, not because I HAD to. To my daughter who doesn't yet realize how cool I actually am.
To my Twitterverse friends, facebook buddies and loyal readers, I say Thank You for a year that exceeded my wildest expectations.
To Eklund and Eric from HockeyBuzz for the opportunity to become an actually recognizable name in the hockey industry. (That may just be one more thing people condemn you guys for, but thanks any way.) To Stan Fischler for befriending me so many years ago. To Mr. Point Blank himself for giving me a shot, even if he did think I was "certifiable."
And to my wonderful husband who has let me get away with spending so much time on the computer and not enough time on everything else, I am the hockey monster you created, but THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
I love you all and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Be back soon.
