Drink From the Cup!

For all those that said the NBC/Comcast merger wouldn't help the NHL, I say GET A LOAD OF THIS!

Okay, this really is one of the coolest things I've seen. Today NBC Sports Group unveiled a 21.5 foot, 6,600-pound Stanley Cup replica in the center of Times Square, that will double as a water fountain allowing NHL fans to ‘Drink from the Cup.’

This image came from Twitter of the "Cup" in Times Square, and you have to admit, that is a very cool (and not cheap) thing NBC did. Sadly, it will only be there for three days (bummer!) so if you are in the NYC area, by all means GO CHECK IT OUT!!!

Oh, and you germophobes out there, take note:

Visitors can drink from sanitized spouts at the base of the fountain, provided by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection in partnership with its NYC Water program.

Of course had they put a champagne fountain in that thing, I would have found a way of getting there today!

While the NY Islanders are not in the playoffs, one of our Stanley Cup royalty was on hand today for the unveiling ceremony as Clark Gillies joined Adam Graves,Grant Marshall, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman along with NBC Sports Chairman Mark Lazarus.

Congrats to the NHL for always thinking of something new to bring Hockey to the public!
