And so it begins.
Rob Schremp and Nate Lawson have both been placed on waivers by the Islanders. Nate Lawson will still back up Al Montoya tonight and Rob Schremp may or may not be in the line-up as well.
Schremp may have a few takers at this point, but should he clear, I'm guessing he will be sent to B-Port.
Nate Lawson on waivers, however, begs the question -- so who will come back to back up Al Montoya? Joel Martin or Mikko Koskinen?
With the excitement of the WhiteOutTheRed Night and the social media gathering today, I will probably not update this blog or my hockeybuzz.com site during the game. Instead, join me and others on the Islanders main site for the live chat with The Rookie and the Reporter.
News breaks there first any way.
Later. Gotta go iron that white shirt I'm wearing!

Isles SO Win in Ottawa 4 - 3
It was a good game for two teams who are struggling for points and facing injury problems. There were no scraps, no misconducts, no problems. But there was the classic voice of Jiggs McDonald, Grabners 25th goal and Josh Bailey's first in 22 games.
Post game report here at hockeybuzz.com.
I'll tell you though, I was actually nervous about having Lawson in net last night on his first day off the IR. He proved me wrong.
I'd also like to say that Travis Hamonic surprises me every game. The on-ice maturity this kid shows is just awesome to watch. When Garth Snow said that the development of Travis Hamonic and Andy McDonald into the Islanders top D pairing gave him the confidence to trade veteran James Wisniewski -- he meant it.
Home game Thursday. Be there and show your support for the team and the organization who has taken a lot of heat in the press recently.

Big Loss in Chicago 5 - 0 Hawks over Isles

Burnt Toast. Yep. That's what happened.
Early penalties, early goals, turn-overs and chasing their tails gave Nate Lawson a harsh loss and Crawford only his second shut out.
But while fans may be worried about the goal tending situation, it seems that Jack Capuano and Garth Snow are not. Katie strang confirms via text that Snow will not be adding another goal tender at this time.
What there is of a recap (ha ha) can be found here at Hockeybuzz.com.
Question for the boys: What? Did the airline confiscate all your razors including Jacks? Now get on the plane and get home safe. Maybe some home cooking will take the taste of this loss away.

Inuries, Call-ups & A Signing
This shouldn't be a busy day of news, and it really wasn't until about 8 pm.
First off, there has been no news about the status of Frans Nielsen and his groin strain. However, he did manage to get in a little curling with the boys. Hopefully, he's okay.
Kevin Poulin has arrived in Canada to join the Islanders and was on the ice along with Nate (the great) Lawson this morning for a practice. Mark Eaton, however, has been sent home with a hip injury and will not continue on with the team. This is a devastating blow to the defense. This is why Dylan Reese made the trip, but he is certainly no replacement for Mark Eaton.
As no forward has been recalled from Bridgeport, it is assumed that Blake Comeau will be available to play tomorrow.
While Rick DiPietro's adductor tweak doesn't seem to be serious, I posted a question this morning to my HB crowd about whether or not we should see Kevin Poulin in a game during this trip. Like say... TOMORROW in Edmonton. Personally, I would love to see the kid play just to see what he can do.
Some say that would be rushing him and others feel the way I do and want to see what the future of the Islanders will look like. For a Goalie prospect post, check out Matt Clausen's look at the Isles Goalies and see what he has to say about Nate the Great and Poulin.
Speaking of the future of the Islanders, a little piece of next season has been locked up with the signing of Milan Jurcina to a one year extension. Nice going! Now, stay off the IR, thank you.
So check out Islandersprospects.blogspot.com and let's see who ends up in net tomorrow

Isles 5 - Flames 2
Updated 11:44 pm: I hate these West Coast games. too late to write.
Isles win with Nate Lawson turning away 28 of 29 shots in his time in net. Nice to hear that Rick told him he'd be able to do it before he was taken to the room in agony with an adductor strain. Thanks to JustJoshR who let us know that Luongo went down with that sort of injury on November 8th and didn't return until January. Greeaaattt...
Anyone pick up Michael Leighton yet off waivers? Hello? Anyone?
Frans Nielsen was clipped in the face, most presumably the nose, tried to come back to the bench but left again. No word
Congrats to: Jt, Matt Moulson, Andy MacDonald and Nate Lawson.
Congrats to Michael Grabner for a beautiful empty net goal to give the Isles their final score of 5 - 2.
More tomorrow. It's just too damn late for me. Maybe by the time I wake up, Garth Snow will have made some additional moves since Jack said he'd have to speak with him to figure out what they are doing.
