12:19 PM: As a surprise Tweet, the @NYIslanders account has informed the faithful that it is Rick DiPietro in net tonight against Sidney Crosby and Pittsburgh.
Oh. Brother.
I hear the Consol Energy Center is absolutely beautiful. But it hasn't been very kind to it's main tenant, the Pittsburgh Penguins. That may change tonight as the Islanders will face off with the team that has beaten them 14 times out of 18 in Pittsburgh.
Sidney Crosby should love seeing the Islanders as he has scored 61 points in 31 games against the Isles including a historic one for him on Uniondale ice.
This will not be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. While the Islanders have numerous key injuries, out of the Pens line-up is Jordan Staal, Aaron Asham, Brooks Orpik and Zbynek Michalek. (Don't ask me to pronounce that.)
John Tavares should not be playing in this game, but may be available to play tomorrow for the "Throw Back" night at the Coliseum. Dwayne Roloson played incredibly well on Wednesday and would be a good call to stand in net against the Penguins. But of course, I am not Scott Gordon and we don't know if Rick will get the nod or not. (Personally, I'd hold Rick off until tomorrow.)
With James Wisniewski cooling his heels in the press box for another game, will Bruno Gervais get some game action tonight or will it be Jack Hillen getting another shot retaining a roster spot?
We'll have to tune in tonight at 6:30 pm for the MSGPlus pre-game show before the 7 pm contest. (Yankees are on at 8 pm? ugh. Wish I knew how to get the PIP thing to work~!)
And if you DON'T know about Throw-back night, check out the Isles main website where you can click to get tickets for only $19.72 for Saturday's game. Great value for a Saturday game.
