Stanley Cup 2009

Sidney Crosby's name will be etched on the Stanley Cup along with Malkin's. His landlord's name is already on it.

At the house party I attended with some of my blog box buddies and my NYIC friends on Friday, the votes were almost split down the middle. There were five votes for Detroit and six for Pittsburgh. My heart wanted Pittsburgh, but my head thought for sure the Red Wings would prevail.

We hardly watched the first period as we all chatted and mingled. We stuffed our faces with Italian food during the second period and settled in with deserts for the third. (We had fabuous hosts.)

Before the game even started we all agreed the first goal the was the most important. My jaw dropped when they scored two.

"If Pittsburgh wins, I hope I have a house to go back to in Detroit. They may riot." Said Rockit's girl. She was legitimately nervous. But Detroit is not Montreal and I was hopeful there wouldn't be mayhem.

The last three minutes of the game were edge of your seat excitement. We waited all year for this. It was well worth it.

But now what will I do? ugh.

Congrats to the Penguins and all their fans that never gave up hope. Bill Guerin has made it into Hockey history along with other former NY Islanders who will be sporting Stanley Cup rings from this year. So sorry Hossa, maybe I should have read your cards before you made the decision to switch teams.

On to the NHL Awards, the Entry Draft and Free Agency Frenzy. Sadly, it really won't be enough to keep me from going through NHL withdrawal. But what can we do? Not much except just wait.

It's Going to Take Seven!

Which is exactly what those of us who don't really have a horse in this race were hoping for. The sheer idea of holding onto the hockey season just a little longer.

While everyone was preparing for the Red Wings to waltz around with the cup last night on the Penguins ice, there were those of us in the Twitterverse crossing our fingers for an upset to bring about a game seven.

Marc Andre Fluery heard us and granted our wish. Lord Stanley was promptly put back in it's case and escorted out of the building and back onto a plane. The hockey faithful get one more game. The Pittsburgh Penguins get one more shot at winning it all. We won't know if they are up to the task until Friday.

Yesterday, while listening to Bill Watters on Toronoto's 640AM radio at work, I had the pleasure of actually hearing an interview with NHL top prospect Matt Duchene. I was more than impressed. So were his radio hosts.

"He's not seventeen! He can't be! He's at least 23." The host exclaimed because the answers Matt gave to each of the questions in the 12 minute segment were thoughtful and mature. He discussed the types of questions that are asked at the grueling combine he attended. The one he remembers most was "What are you most afraid of." It took a little but Matt fessed up to his answer.

"My worst fear is being insignificant." He went on to explain in brilliant detail what he expects to accomplish. It was an eye-opener. They should put the podcast link up so everyone can hear it. When they do, I will post it.

Okay, so what the heck is up with NBC & the NHL and not airing the games on the big screens at the arenas? I would be very interested in an official statement from the NHL or NBC regarding the thought process behind garnering the anger of so many hockey fans. No. Seriously. Give me a valid reason for this clause to be put into NBC's contract because I can't see the value in it.

My thought: Let's boycott an NBC airing of "The Office" to show our anger. Anyone want to join in on that?

The Tom Suozzi "PEACE" Initiative

Today Kate Murray and Charles Wang will meet again in Mineola for a little sit down session brokered by Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi. There will be fire trucks stationed outside the building. (Just kidding.) Why it has taken this long is beyond any one's comprehension, but as the calendar keeps turning, this needs to move quickly.

Mr. Wang has been exceptionally busy this week. Yesterday he met with NY Governor Patterson. Unlike the Town Supervisor, the Governor was well informed on the project. Perhaps he realizes how important this is and how other states and cities are doing exactly the same types of multi-use developments to increase their economic wellness.

The Mets bumped Mr. Wang off the FAN yesterday and I haven't received word of when it will be rescheduled. Lucky for Francesa.

Penguins make it a series with a brilliant game last night. The hockey faithful will hold on to our sport for as long as we can before we head into that dry spell called "the off season."

Big Boys, Big Brooms!

I seriously didn't expect the Penguins to be able to SWEEP the Carolina Heart attack Canes. Patience and hard work just paid off for the Pens and it was four and done.

I will admit, I actually did doze off for five minutes last night because it was a forgone conclusion by the third. Cam Ward seemed out of position too often and the Pens just took advantage of him.

However, the thing that struck me the most is the fact that I had no idea Malkin was that BIG. Sidney Crosby is not a little guy. When Malkin skated over to him when he was presented with the trophy, I couldn't believe the difference in size. He's a monster. No wonder he can't be stopped.

Yes, Dan Blysma's Pittsburgh Penguins boast two of the NHL's most elite players. They will vie for the coveted prize once again. In all honesty, it's a perfect scenario.

Congratulations to Bill Guerin for being such a contributor on this exceptional team. His is a perfect case to prove "Karma."

This is the team he was meant to be on this Spring. It was his destiny. Proof once again that everything happens for a reason. Everything.

So who will they face? There still has to be hope for Blackhawk fans. It's just somewhat -- dim.
